BCC Book Group: Recommended Books
Take a look at what’s coming up on our Book Group: On September 22 to discuss Towers of Gold, by Frances Dinkelspiel, a biography of 19th century Jewish Californian Isaias Hellman and his influence on the growth of our state. On October 27 we will discuss The Man in the White Sharkskin Suit by Lucette Lagnado, a memoir of a Jewish family’s exodus from Old Cairo to the New World. BCC Book Group (Books and Bagels) meets monthly in members’ homes for a bagel brunch and discussion of a book selected by the group. We have been meeting continuously since 1995! We read a variety of books: fiction and non-fiction, American and Israeli, historical and contemporary. The only requirement is some Jewish content (LGBT content is a plus, but not required). Recent selections have included Society’s Child, an autobiography by Janis Ian, and Last Days of Summer, a novel by Steve Kluger about New York during World War II. The group is open to BCC members and non-members, and you are welcome to join us for a particular book that may interest you.
