Frequently Asked Questions

Who can become a Member?

Membership is open to all. Jews and non-Jews alike are welcome to become members of BCC. Many members are in interfaith relationships, are Jews by choice or are non-Jews exploring Judaism. Whether you live alone or are part of a multiple person household, you are welcome to apply for membership.

If I already attend services and classes, why become a member?

Becoming a member is an important way to ensure that BCC will be here for the community, and for you, in the years to come. It is also a covenant between the members and our temple community. For many, membership brings with it stronger social and spiritual connections to others at BCC.

What else does membership include?

  • Rabbi and other clergy available to you for personal and lifecycle events
  • Free member ticket(s) to High Holy Day services
  • Discounted High Holy Day tickets for your family and friends
  • Free admission to all BCC classes
  • Annual notification and acknowledgment of family member yahrzeits
  • Inclusion in BCC’s annual membership directory
  • The right to vote at our congregational meetings
  • The opportunity to serve as a member of a committee or as a Board member
  • A subscription to our bimonthly newsletter (G’vanim) and to Reform Judaism Magazine
  • Invitation to an Annual Member Appreciation reception

I attend High Holidays every year. Doesn’t that mean I’m a member?

No. There is an application process to formally become a member.  Please click here for application forms.  If you decide to become a member, the purchase price of your High Holiday tickets will be applied to your Membership Contribution annual pledge.

What are the Membership Contribution costs? Do you offer any discounts for students?

The congregation has a very inclusive Membership Contribution program. We have levels of participation to meet everyone’s circumstances, including a level for full-time students. Many members pay their contribution on a monthly or quarterly basis. BCC is committed to ensuring that anyone who seeks membership with our community is able to, regardless of finances. In keeping with Jewish tradition, many of our members choose to join at contribution levels higher than the Foundation level in order to make membership possible for all who seek it. It is BCC’s members who make possible BCC’s commitment to excellence in our services and programming by supporting our temple through membership contributions.

How do I join?

It’s easy! Click here for application forms. Or, if you prefer, you can call the temple office (323-931-7023) and ask for a membership application to be mailed to you. You can also connect with our Executive Director, Ruth Geffner by email templedirector@bcc-la.org, or by telephone 323-931-7023, ext 203.
