Weekend Activities at BCC: February 14-16 / 2014
Friday February 21 at 6:30 pm: Early Service with Rabbi Lisa Edwards and Cantor Juval Porat. Join us for BCC’s 2nd early service. This will be a contemplative one hour circle Shabbat. Let your Shabbat be what it was meant to be — reflective, meditative, gentle, different from the ordinary days of the week. After services we invite you to bring in your own meal (or something to share) and stay for games and conversation, or join with friends (new and old) and venture out to a neighborhood restaurant.
For our friends outside Los Angeles: Friday Shabbat Services will be live streamed. After services join us for Oneg refreshments. Saturday, February 22 at 10:00 am: Ohr Chayim. BCC families meet for children’s program of Jewish learning. This is for children of all ages. Email Leah Zimmerman, Director of Education for more details and to join.
Sunday, February 23, Project Chicken Soup. Preparing Kosher meals and delivering to clients with HIV/AIDS, cancer and serious illness: 7:45am to cook; 11:30am to deliver meals. Sunday, February 23 at 10:00 am: BCC Books & Bagels. Join the BCC Book group to discuss My Beloved World, by Sonia Sotomayor. A memoir by the first Latina U.S. Supreme Court justice on her life before becoming a judge. Though she does include some interactions with Jewish neighbors in the Bronx, this is an exception to our usual criterion of significant Jewish content. The group meets in private homes. Sunday, February 23 at 2:00pm: Women’s Havurah Planning Meeting. Now is your chance to help us plan events for the rest of 2014 and for early 2015. BCC Women: If you know you will be unable to attend but have some ideas of what you want, please email Marsha. It’s time to select a new Chair of the Women’s Havurah. It’s a pretty simple, straightforward task–encouraging women to host activities, sending out email reminders on upcoming activities. Marsha will help you get started.
