BCC Welcomes Merissa Nathan Gerson
On Friday, May 1, Rabbi Lisa and Cantor Juval will lead Shabbat services with guest speaker, Merissa Nathan Gerson.
Merissa Nathan Gerson is a sex-positive writer and sex educator new to the Los Angeles area. Formerly the author of Ask Your Yenta, an advice column, she writes about sex, spirituality, disability and culture for The Atlantic, Tablet, Lilith, Harper’s Bazaar, Salon.com and others.
Merissa has led workshops on sex and Judaism for Moishe House, The Collaborative and Jewrotica and is a program associate of Seven Wells: Sex Education Redrawn in Manhattan. She holds an MFA in Writing and Poetics from the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, an MA in Jewish Studies with a focus on sex, sexuality, and intergenerational trauma from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California, and spent a year at the Pardes Insitute for Jewish Studies in Jerusalem where she focused on sex, gender, and sexuality in Jewish tradition.
After services, there will be a meet and greet with Merissa. This event is a collaboration with JQ International.
