Club 6090: A Review
Larry Nathenson attended the first two #Club6090 concerts over the past month (The Peculiars and Iva Bittova), and here’s what he wrote about our new club.
I attended the first two concerts at LA’s newest music venue, Club 6090. Both were wonderful, but in very different ways. On October 26, the jam band The Peculiars brought back musical memories from the 1960s and 1970s, with an exciting combination of instrumental and vocal talent. Their enthusiasm got almost everyone out of their seats and onto the dance floor. On November 3 the atmosphere was more subdued, a more traditional concert but with very untraditional talent. Lawrence Juber, former lead guitarist for Wings, displayed his exquisite guitar performance with a mix of tunes from several past decades. Iva Bittova, a Czech Jewish/Roma singer and violinist, was like nothing I’ve heard before — a high-pitched style evoking European folk cultures and birdlike naturalism. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
