“Girl Rising”
After the success of our “Am I My Sister’s Keeper?” event at Temple Emanuel last month, BCC joins forces again with American Jewish World Service to co-sponsor an event focusing on girls’ empowerment. In partnership with IKAR and BCC, AJWS-LA will be hosting a screening of the feature film “Girl Rising,” on Tuesday evening, Feb 4, in the Ann and Jerry Moss Theater at the New Roads School, 3131 Olympic Boulevard in Santa Monica (AJWS’s office). Buy your tickets here
“Girl Rising” by Academy-Award-nominated director Richard E. Robbins, spotlights the remarkable stories of nine girls around the world striving beyond circumstance and overcoming nearly insurmountable odds to achieve their dreams. It uses the storytelling skills of acclaimed writers and voice performances by renowned actors to promote a powerful truth: educating girls can transform families, communities and entire countries.
The event will feature selections from the film, followed by a conversation with AJWS’s India country consultant Devashri Mukherjee and film producer Alex Dionne. Light refreshments will follow. Admission is $18, with proceeds to benefit our work with women and girls worldwide.
Teen Program
Following the screening of excerpts of the compelling film, “Girls Rising,” and a Q & A with an esteemed panel, our teens will gather for a teen-only reception, to motivate and inspire them.
Moving Traditions, who empowers teen girls nationally with the acclaimed program Rosh Hodesh:It’s a Girl Thing!, is proud to partner with AJWS to create an interactive and compelling program following the film. Teens will make art, tweet and reflect, while gaining valuable community organizing training from AJWS. Teens can earn 10 community service hours by working to gather signatures from the adults in their community as a part of the AJWS We Believe campaign.
Student tickets are only $5.
