Happy “Thanksgivukkah”
Hanukkah starts at sundown on Wednesday, November 27, and continues through Thursday, December 5. In the United States, the second night of Hanukkah falls on Thanksgiving Day, therefore the term “Thanksgivukkah”.
Hanukkah, also called Chag Urim, the Festival of Lights. Hanukkah, or “dedication,” is the eight-day celebration that commemorates the re-dedication of the Temple after the Maccabees recaptured it from the Greeks in 168 B.C.E.

Tuesday, November 19, 2013, Holiday Prep Class for LGBT Interfaith Couples, 7:30-9pm, at BCC. This workshop is sponsored by Beg Tent Judaism as part of their new LGBT Interfaith Parents Circle and is especially designed for interpartnered/intermarried LGBT couples planning to or raising Jewish children. The workshop will be facilitated by Rabbi Heather Miller. Refreshments served. This is a free educational program designed primarily for the parent who isn’t Jewish in an interfaith LGBT couple.

November 27, First Night of Hanukkah, Candle-Lighting and Singing with Cantor Porat and the BCC Choir, Third Street Promenade (between Santa Monica Blvd., and Arizona Ave ), Santa Monica, 7pm start time This is the perfect way to start Hanukkah! Join the BCC Cantor, Choir and Membership Committee for a fun evening of singing and Hanukkah fun under the giant menorah! Hanukkah in November—why not make the most of it?! 6:00pm Latke Party and Bring Your Own Dinner, especially for families with children, Hanukkah Crafts with Ms. Purple.
6:45pm Family Candle Lighting
7:00pm Song session with Rabbi Heather Miller and Cantor Juval Porat
7:30pm Candle-lighting followed by Shabbat/Hanukkah/Thanksgiving Service with Rabbi Heather and Cantor Juval Followed by a delicious Latke and Sufganiot Party! All welcome!

The Thanksgivukkah Festival – A Huge Block Party on Pico Blvd.
Live musical performances, potential eating contests, community public art project, tree planting, pumpkin painting, dreidel spinning contest, menorah ring toss, Face painting, Maccabees games, sand art, turkey pinata with chocolate gelt, carnival games (we will be renting 10 games that need to be supervised), moon bounces.
