As a part of our bimonthly film club, we will screen the movie “Torch Song Trilogy” on Saturday, December 14, 7pm to 10pm (screening will start shortly after the Havdala service). Tony award-winning actor and playwright Harvey Fierstein re-creates his role as the unsinkable Arnold Beckoff in this film adaptation of the smash Broadway play

This cinematic adaption of the landmark play written by Harvey Fierstien is an American comedy directed by Paul Bogart. Fierstein, Anne Bancroft, and Mathew Broderick star in the film. The plot follows the life of a Jewish New York female impersonator who meets a bi-sexual school teacher and they fall in love. The movie also deals with gay adoption, parental acceptance & homophobic attacks.

Like the play the film is broken into three segments covering the periods of 1971,1973-79 and 1980. The film was nominated for Best Feature and Fierstein was nominated for Best Male Lead in the Independent Spirit Awards.
