This book was the basis for the recent movie “Woman in Gold,” starring Helen Mirren. The book covers much more ground, including the back story of the painting by Gustav Klimt as well as its seizure by the Nazis and retention by the Austrian government after the war, and the legal battle waged by Maria Altmann and her attorney Randy Schoenberg to recover it for her family.
